IGO Agritech Farms, India's leading agricultural technology company, recently facilitated a comprehensive industrial visit (IV) for students from JNN Institute of Engineering. The program offered students valuable hands-on exposure to modern polyhouse farming techniques, bridging the critical gap between academic learning and real-world agri-industry practices.

    What is Polyhouse Farming?

Polyhouse farming is a modern technique of agriculture that involves growing plants in a controlled environment. By enclosing crops within a polyethylene-covered structure, farmers can regulate temperature, humidity, and light conditions throughout the year — enabling crop production irrespective of external season and climate. This approach is transforming Indian agriculture by dramatically improving yields, reducing pest incidence, and enabling year-round cultivation of high-value crops.

    What Students Experienced

During the industrial visit, engineering students were given a thorough walkthrough of IGO Agritech Farms' polyhouse operations. The program covered:

    • Polyhouse structure design and materials used
    • Key components: ventilation systems, irrigation networks, and climate control equipment
    • Soil preparation and crop planting techniques
    • Technology applications including sensors and automated irrigation systems
    • Operational management and day-to-day farm practices

The IGO Agritech team provided hands-on training sessions where students could directly interact with equipment, observe automated systems in action, and understand the commercial aspects of running a modern polyhouse operation.

    Bridging Academia and Industry

The industrial visit program represents IGO Agritech Farms' commitment to building the next generation of agri-tech professionals. By exposing engineering students to real-world polyhouse operations, the program helps bridge the gap between academic theory and practical application — creating a win-win situation for both students and the industry.
